Hi, and welcome to my modular pilot training blog. I share tips on how to become a pilot in Europe (WITHOUT REMORTGAGING YOUR PARENTS’ HOUSE)! I am an airline pilot flying the Boeing 737NG in Europe and in my spare time, I like to make YouTube videos and blog about modular flight training.
I did my flight training via the modular pilot route (ATPL theory via distance learning) whilst working full time and hope to share some of the experiences to hopefully make things easier for you. Check out the blog!

With this blog focussed on Modular flight training, I will break down the modular pilot training steps (zero to ATPL), costs and how to keep the pilot training process as cheap as possible (but not sacrifice on the quality of training).
I will cover all the stages from PPL Training in UK & Europe, structured hour building, ATPL exams, all the way through to landing your first job. If you are struggling with PPL/ CPL/ ATPL theory study, or study in general, checkout my How to study effectively class on my learning page.
For those interested in my background, I studied for a Masters in Aerospace Engineering (MEng) at the University of Manchester.
I then worked in the Oil and Gas Industry in a variety of roles, starting of as a junior design engineer and then moving on to various other technical roles. During that process, I became a Chartered Engineer and stayed in the oil and gas industry for around 12 years.
The boyhood dream of flying kept niggling away, and eventually, I completed my pilot training on a part time basis and was lucky enough to finish when airline recruitment was booming.
I now have over 1500hours and a full Air Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL) mainly on the Boeing 737. Around 250 of my hours are on general aviation aircraft (single engine piston) and multi engine piston which I still enjoy flying from time to time.
I am a member of the Royal Aeronautical Society (MRaES) and try to support STEM activities when I can.
Please leave a comment in the section below if you have any questions on pilot training – I would love to hear from you!

Kudzi Chikohora is a B737 pilot with over 2,500 hours of flying in Europe. He holds a Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, is a chartered engineer, and is a member of the Royal Aeronautical Society.
Kudzi completed his pilot training via the self-funded modular pilot training route and created kcthepilot.com to share pilot training and aviation content.

Such a great blog, well done Kudzi!
I met Kudzi during my CPL training, I feel very lucky for meeting someone so inspiring. Kudzi is cool on the videos, even cooler in real life! Rarely have I met someone so helpful and friendly as him. The way to professional aviation is full of tricks and following his guidance will help avoiding traps.
I followed a very similar path as him until CPL-ME-IR where we met. Since then he has been advising me with choices, timing, weighing risk and opportunities. Thanks a lot for all your help and continue the good work.
Thanks for your kind words Alex! Wishing you all the best on what remains for your Flight Training journey. I cant wait for the day that I turn up for work and you are my Captain!!
Cheers
